Modern Slavery

There was a segment on ABC about modern slavery in Haiti, a tragedy that is widespread in that country. It is truly heartwrenching to read the accounts of children who are swept up in this deplorable practice. We have encountered a few examples like the ones described in the ABC piece in our country. It is hard to believe that slavery still exists, but it is a scourge we are not yet done fighting.
Slavery and the Modern Day
The capacity for humans, in the practice of slavery, to so utterly exploit, degrade and subject other humans to a miserable existence... it makes me wonder about the fitness of humans to exist on Earth.
The abomination of slavery is similar to the current phenomenon torture and indefinite detention (without habeas corpus) that we are seeing amongst members of the Bush Administration (and its associated interests and supporters). Bush et al. advocate treating other human beings as if they are somehow less than human, imprisoning them indefinitely without proof of guilt.
And even if they were guilty, what would they be guilty of in a fundamental sense - opposing U.S. empire?
This country has made a lot of improvements. On that you're right Representative Conyers. But we still have a LONG way to go toward achieving a truly just and equitable society.
Bush's "take without asking" mentality (and actions) bears some striking similarities to the practice of slavery.

When I was young, like most children in the early 60's, I liked comic books and Superhero's.
The first time I saw Clark Kent take off his glasses and change into his superdude outfit, I couldn't understand why Lois, Jimmy, and Lex Luther didn't see that it was the same person. It was insulting to me, at the age of 4, and I thought it highly implausible that humans could be so gullible.
That was then, this is now.
Years ago Bush declared that the attacks of 9/11, initiated the beginning of a GLOBAL WAR on/of Terrorism. I've seen globes. Other than snow globes, most are 3-D pictures of the world.
Now I know I'm going a little too fast for you Mr. Conyers, but could you please explain to me why we're in a Global War, but not a World War?
Or are you still filled with awe over the fact that Superman was teleported into Clark Kents clothes, the second Clark removed his glasses?
It appears that Obama has removed his glasses too. But instead of a superhero teleporting in, we've gotten your basic garden variety triangulating scumbag politician.
At least McCain flipflops in our direction.

Please speak to your boy, Obama, and let him know that just because he seeks to BE the next Decider in King does not, in any way, excuse him for capitulating to the demands of the current Usurper in Thief, bestowing upon the Office of President of the USA the ability to BE above the law... to BE an American King! It means Congress
has usurped their Constitutionally granted powers. They too now assume that they can join in the act of treating the Constitution like a god damned piece of paper.
It should now be painfully obvious to everyone here that the government "leading" this country is illegitimate. Congress is NOT capitulating to the president, but is in fact, facilitating and abetting the unconstitutional behavior. Let there now be no doubt that a "coup d'etat" occurred in 2000 and unless John Conyers gets over his "indecision" to impeach before the election (In reality, he has already decided not to impeach, but he isn't going to tell that to his contributors or constituents), the take over will be complete.
Look back at recent history. Obama will either be assassinated or vilified in the mainstream propaganda media much like President Carter was vilified after Nixon's two term train wreck. And what happened after that? Twelve years of GOP reign.
Match that timeline with the peak oil timeline and you will see that, whatever the outcome, they will have been in control during the coming chaotic crash.
You pissed away the two years we gave you John. You could have restored constitutional rule. But your your stupidity (certainly can't call it ignorance, we discussed it all right here) and cowardice has guaranteed the worst.

Pelosi gives nod for contempt charges... wink, wink, nod, nod...
liberal blogs are buzzing with an unsourced report that Speaker Nancy Pelosi is blocking Conyers from following through with the contempt charge. The rumor has spread far and wide on left-leaning blogs and message boards, from Democratic Underground to TPM Cafe.
And apparently it's false. Pelosi's communications director Brendan Daly sent us the following statement:
Those reports are completely untrue -- the Speaker has not urged the Judiciary Committee not to seek contempt charges against Karl Rove.
The committee can seek a contempt citation if it decides to do so. (Fyi, Henry Waxman's Oversight Committee is looking at a contempt citation against the attorney general over documents. The Speaker has no objections to that -- it's the committee's decision.)
A source with the House Judiciary Committee also denied Pelosi was opposing contempt charges."

I'd rather have crackheads running Congress.
Each election cycle we need to eliminate a small percentage of these criminals. It appears that they are using the 70's technique of capitulation, to discourage us into turning our backs on the political process again.
Most Americans got angry and turned their backs on the process, after the Watergate pardons, resulting in the political inbreds we're burdened with today.
Michigan needs a partisan GOP attorney general, similar to the Just-Us Department, so America can have a new chairman of the house judiciary committee. He won't leave, he won't uphold the law, and with Congress's incredibly generous healthcare package, he'll probably outlive my grandchildren.
But most Michiganians are probably too busy dumpster diving for breakfast, to notice.
But I bet Mr. Conyers family is in fine shape, and might even be taking advantage of the real estate crisis, to buy the property these former voters deserted.
By the time he's done, he'll be selling little Filipino girls for a living. He alerted us to the Constitutional crisis, only to perpetuate it's destruction.
I have no doubt his slavery concerns will result in free labor for his mansions. At least that's the pattern he's established. Considering his track record lately, it would be irresponsible to think otherwise.
