A Better Way to Reform Health Care

A Better Way to Reform Health Care

I thought you might be interested in this letter to the editor in today's Washington Post.

I want a single-payer national health plan that provides private care (so we can choose our doctors) but is financed through the government (so we have oversight and economies of scale).

The full piece may be found here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/11/AR2008111102389.html

SENSIBLE single-payer

Eliminate reliance on a single theory of patient care. Some Insurance Companies have actually discovered that alternative methods are cheaper and in many cases more effective than the "Authorized" (Allopathic) form. Also, PREVENTION is a LOT cheaper than "Treatment" (which seldom if ever results in a cure.) Health Freedom is a lot more sensible than Government-sanctioned "Management" of illness. Unleash ALL forms of Medicine, and watch us become a much healthier country!

With this Congress?

Mr. Conyers, in case you haven't noticed, most Americans no longer have faith in the intentions of their leaders.

Look at how surprised oil companies are over the public's sudden drop in oil consumption. What, just because the price drops a few dollars we're supposed to forget how vulnerable we felt when they so ruthlessly screwed us? We aren't supposed to protect ourselves when we see the stock market, and our retirement accounts shrink?

You can try to bribe us with "better" healthcare, but realistically speaking, even if you get something passed it will be shot full of loopholes big enough to drive an HMO through. That's the way you roll.

Look at the $700 billion "emergency" funding that had to be passed last month for America to survive. Will you be using the same congressmen and women in the creation of this "new healthcare"?

Personally, after being betrayed by you on many occasions, I am skeptical of anything you promote. Apparently, you'll say and do anything to further your personal agenda, and worry about damage control later.

The only thing we can be sure of is, when given the opportunity, you'll disappoint us and make your friends happy.

After 150 years in Congress, your healthcare friends have had a chance to buy you many times over.

"We the people" can't compete with that kind of influence.

I'd rather see the Judicial Committee focus on legal matters instead. I'm sure there are things to do. Things that have a little more to do with your job description?

Like maybe....impeachment?

I'm not in Congress. I don't take bribes, not even when they're disguised as healthcare packages.

Why doesn't Sarah Palin go away? (Part I)

Elections are over! Still, Sarah Palin is in the news every day.

Palin urges GOP governors to keep Democrats honest
By BRENDAN FARRINGTON, Associated Press Writer – Thu Nov 13, 6:18 pm ET

-----MIAMI – Sarah Palin called on fellow Republican governors to keep the new president and his strengthened Democratic majority in check on issues from taxes to health care as she signaled she'll take a leadership role in a party searching for a new standard-bearer.

Addressing the Republican Governors Association meeting Thursday, this year's GOP vice presidential nominee — and an oft-mentioned candidate for 2012 — revisited some aspects of the bitter campaign and talked about the role of the governors in the coming year. After losing the White House and several seats in the Senate and House, the party is engaging in some soul-searching about its direction. . . .

The title alone blows me away! While the Repugs have lied, cheated and stolen for the past eight years, Palin is now the criterian?

And, this, yesterday:

Facing Palin factor, Romney mulls political future

former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney
answers questions during …

---BOSTON – Tagg Romney was in his office the other day when the door opened and in popped his father, Mitt Romney, dropping off the family dog.

It was a mundane task that highlighted Romney's change in fortunes: Instead of managing a White House transition, or preparing to assume the vice presidency, the man who failed in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination and was passed over by John McCain for running mate is focusing on his family and political interests.

And it may stay that way through 2012 and beyond.

The surprising ascendancy of McCain's eventual pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and her popularity among some GOP conservatives have left Romney wondering whether he could wage a viable second campaign for the White House, according to friends and advisers. . . . .

Well, I’m sure you already know that Palin is in your face!

I’ve so often said, Palin would make an excellent neocon mouthpiece! Well, guess what? It was the neocons that chose Palin to be McCain’s running mate. And now, the same neocons that brought you Bush and Cheney are preparing to bring you Sarah Palin to run for president in 2012 – I’m talking about the neocons of the PNAC. The PNAC is back:*

Why doesn't Sarah Palin go away? (Part II)

(Sorry for the multiple parts, but system keeps rejecting "Operation aborted" -- have had to add little by litte, and finally it wouldn't take the rest of the comment.)

*They never left. But their website did! Now, it’s back! Project for New American Century

"There is nothing to fear but fear itself."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

Why doesn't Sarah Palin go away? (Part III)

The utter audacity and brazenness of the PNAC is remarkable – in the face of what their policies have wrought through Bush and Cheney. And now, they’re getting prepared for the next whack at our democracy through Sarah Palin. Evil does not go away of its own volition!

Through the utter inaction to hold anyone in the current Administration accountable, the PNAC has, obviously, received a clear message -- that the path is clear for them to “operate” toward a 2012 victory in their inimitable “do any and all things necessary” methodology. Afterall, look at how successfully eight years of their policies were pulled off and the resultant power and wealth accumulated.

"There is nothing to fear but fear itself."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

Yo tahoe

Palen is a JOKE!!!

Don't you get it,Saturday night live!!!!

How could one ,take something like that seriously????

The Republikan crapheads are sore losers!
I talked to one today and he said,"Now it's our turn to make sure that YOUR president FAILS!"
I told him that ,that statement alone showed me that he had not learned a damn thing!

Personally .I have a BIG problem with the fact that Georgy opened the door for complete abuse of power .no matter who is at the helm.

With the privileges left behind by BUSHIT ,ergo the total unchecked abuse of signing statements,if left un-confronted or not completely banned,I fear that the ultimate power will corrupt anyone that has it!

Checks and balances MUST be restored,if not ,the next person to ascend the throne will have FULL and unchecked power!

We have seen with our own eyes, since the last election(S)That the elected representatives have TOTALLY ignored the voice of the people!

What is more important in our form of government than the voice of the majority? We the people?

Have I screwed up ,and misinterpreted the Declaration of Independence (you know that "It's just a God Damned piece of paper) document?

Tahoe , I get along just fine by ignoring bullshit,it's not worth my time.

As long as people make a big deal about The Soccer Mom , the press will capitalize on it.

Ignore those that have ignored us for the past eight years, and they will fade away.

Keep working hard towards your dreams .and keep up the good work.

Let's not let this golden opportunity get spoiled by those that have ruined the planet for the last eight years.

Work hard towards making those ruiners completely powerless and expose them for the greedy RAT'S that they are,

If it were up to me .those rats .would be working on an assembly line .down in Juarez Mexico, for the rest of their lives!

OR WORSE!

It is time to get back to work!

In the remaining days of this, the "Lame Duck" Congress, you have plenty of time to amass the information needed to craft legislation that will ensure honest elections in the future. While it is true that Dennis Kucinich has introduced legislation that would outlaw the criminally vulnerable voting machines and return the Nation to paper ballots capable of an accurate recount, you can't really envision Bu$h signing such a law, can you? I suggest putting that one in a drawer, and passing comprehensive legislation outlawing all kinds of vote theft and manipulation forever! The hearings should start with Greg Palast and Bobby Kennedy Jr. , feature testimony by Bev. Harris and Brad Friedman, and expand to include experts and witnesses from The BRAD BLOG and Black Box Voting. Then, any legislation crafted as a result of these hearings should be presented to the NEXT Congress for approval and Obama's signature; such legislation should, at a minimum include the abolition of the machine and return to paper, but also

1. (We cannot step on "States' Rights" - but in ANY election that selects Federal Officeholders, so-called "Government issued Photo I.D.'s" shall NOT be required as proof of identity. There are lots of other ways that do NOT impose what can only be considered a Poll Tax.)

2. False, misleading, or confusing information shall be outlawed. Such statements as fictitious change in polling place location, late election dates ("Democrats to vote on WEDNESDAY!"), threats that unpaid parking tickets can result in jail time if a person dares to vote, and the like. shall result in the promulgators thereof being subject, NOT to wrist-slaps, nor mere fines (political war chests are DEEP), but serious jail time on conviction! (Fine them, too - attempt to dry up the funds, a little - dedicate the fines to PUBLICATION of chicanery in the process.)

3. "Caging" or similar manipulation of eligibility shall also be severely punishable.

4. "Challenges" of elector eligibility shall be limited to law enforcement officers. Anyone not so authorized and found guilty of illicitly challenging, shall be charged with impersonation.

Oh, HELL - I could go on for pages, but you NEED to have the hearings and craft some good legislation, so that 2000, 2002 (where the machines stole Georgia), and 2004 will NEVER be repeated! GET BACK TO WORK!

Excellent points re voting, Kory!

Just one amongst a thousand problems created by this criminal administration and the GOP!

"There is nothing to fear but fear itself."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

Hi, Ron,

Surely you don't think I take Palin seriously. She's worse than a joke.

What I do take seriously, however, is the neocons of the PNAC -- that is to say that they will do anything and everything (as they have in the past). With Bush and Cheney walking away with no accountability, and with tons and power and wealth, they will be pushing buttons in the "shadows" and creating havoc here and there. They will be on the constant attack of anything that Obama does, right, wrong or indifferent.

And not to be taken lightly is the filthy incidence concerning Don Siegelman. Also, that done to Eliot Spitzer, who was on the trail of who caused the sub-prime crisis. Now, just a couple of days ago, Dennis Kucinich's home was vandalized not once, but twice, in two days. And there have been all kinds of other occurrences, such as beatings, people thrown in jail for no earthly reason, etc.

Yes, leaving the path open for further abuse to the Constitution and our democracy is there in front of us. And, as you mention, it has been the utter greed that has damn near destroyed this country. Accountability is the only realistic means of restoring checks and balances -- it would say, we are a country that has rules (Constitution) and that we adhere to our rules and the national and international laws. Without it? Well, you, me and any of us can easily fill in the blanks. Eight long years of criminality -- death, destruction and an economic disaster to us all, while they have made out like bandits, at our expense, and then they walk away? It makes you sick inside.

And, yes, Ron, although We the People, for near eight long years now, have rallied, telephoned, faxed, written LTE's, signed Petitions, spent money, etc. and, generally, have done everything possible, within legal boundaries, our voices may have been heard, but were IGNORED, the latest being the $700 billion bailout, again for the rich.

Now, we do, hopefully, have an opportunity with Obama. BTW, he and Biden have a website and you can send your thoughts directly to them -- Change.gov

Our work is definitely cut out for us. Being constantly on guard to push back the neocons, while watching Obama and giving voice and direction to him as needed, and supporting him at the same time. So much of this never needed to be. Sad, isn't it?

So, yes, I'm looking forward and upward, but with a wary eye! Good to see you! ;)

"There is nothing to fear but fear itself."

Change begins with people like Dingell.

John Dingell, at the tender age of 82, is fighting to keep his Chairmanship of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Having been first elected in 19 frickin' 55, he has been involved in every decision that led to the collapse of union manufacturing, and the auto-industries downfall.

By preventing higher CAFE standards, due to the costs associated with a forced retooling of GM, Ford, and Chrysler during a time of record profits and SUV sales, he set the stage for their bankruptcy and the destruction of America's last major private labor organizations.

If people like Dingell hadn't stopped the higher CAFE standards, the penny pinching bastards at GM would be in better shape to deal with such a rapid and potentially permanent change in America's driving habits. But then his wife wouldn't have gleaned so much pay from GM

Henry Waxman believes that a change in leadership is needed.

Obama is on a set path. His initial time will be occupied on myriad emergencies designed to distract him long enough for the status quo'ers to form a united front.

But if we eliminate people like Dingell, and replace them with people like Waxman, Obama's energy policy will get a chance at open debate until such time that real progress can be made.

Look at the manner in which another obstructionist Pre-2K politician gained control of the House Judiciary Committee, and effectively steered it away from debating impeachment, for proof of a need to eliminate these dinosaurs from all leadership posts.

This "change" began when activists all over America lobbied to have Terry McAuliffe tossed on his ass, as head of the DNC. But, like a bad case of crabs he keeps coming back with more friends.

Shampoo has instructions that read, "Lather, rinse, repeat".

The process used to eliminate Terry McAuliffe, must be repeated until every fascist sleeper cell in America has been eliminated from positions of influence.

They won't retire, with their incredible healthcare they don't die, and they will keep getting re-elected even when they've been tried, convicted...and died.

The last thing I want is to follow a bunch of dinosaurs into Michigans tarpit.

Dingell looks like one who could be, and should be, cut from the herd and devoured by activist wolves. Conyers/Pelosi too, but nobody seems to be interested in competing for their jobs.

In 2010 things could be a lot different. It's time to change Dingell. Considering his age, he might need to be changed in more ways than one.

I dunno, Mark!

Maybe, in some ways, it's tantamount to what, for sake of examples, lawyers, doctors and other professionals are required to undergo -- that is to say, there is a Continuing Legal Education that goes on, and a continuing education for doctors, etc. There seems to be nothing mandatory in our government that elected officials must also undergo "continuing education," at least as far as I know -- so, I guess there are any number of them that can "sleep" through the process kindly afforded them by the voters.

"There is nothing to fear but fear itself."

Obama advisers: Bush era war criminals will walk
Stephen C. Webster
Published: Monday November 17, 2008

Even as President-elect Obama vowed "to regain America's moral stature in the world" during Sunday's 60 Minutes appearance, two of his senior advisers confessed there is no intent to pursue those in the Bush administration who engaged in torture, a war crime.

Speaking on condition of anonymity to the Associated Press, the advisers said that the plan is to put a stop to current interrogation methods and to "look forward" as opposed to focusing on prior transgressions.

Abramoff said he had agreement with White House aide just a month after Bush took office

Published: Monday November 17, 2008

Email noting relationship with White House came just a month after Bush took office

Convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff told his colleagues at his former law firm that he had an “agreement” regarding communications with a former assistant to then-Deputy Chief of Staff, Karl Rove, perhaps the most substantial documented tie between Abramoff and the White House to date.

In the email, dated Feb. 27, 2001, Abramoff reprimands a colleague who asked him to use Susan Ralston – Special Assistant to the President George W. Bush and then-Bush senior adviser Karl Rove – to arrange a meeting with the President for one of his clients.

In response, Abramoff writes that Ralston and he have an “agreement with her as to what we are going to ask her and when.”

Prior to joining the White House staff, Ralston was Abramoff’s assistant at the lobbying giant Greenberg Traurig. Prior to Greenberg, she had also worked with Abramoff at the lobbying shop Preston Gates & Ellis.

Documents say feds can track cell phones' locations without telecoms' help
John Byrne
Published: Monday November 17, 2008

Federal law enforcement may be able to track cellular phones users' locations without the help of the telecommunications companies themselves, according to a report Sunday.

Documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union under a Freedom of Information Act request suggest that existing technology allows law enforcement to bypass wireless companies in locating individual cell phone users.

Using "triggerfish" technology, mobile phones are tricked into transmitting their serial numbers, phone numbers and other data by posing as a cellular phone tower. Until now, it's been believed that such technology could only be successfully employed with the help of the telecoms themselves, because the specific location of the phone couldn't be traced with enough accuracy.

But a document obtained by the ACLU and the Electronic Frontier Foundation from the Justice Department in a lawsuit and posted online last week says triggerfish can be deployed "without the user knowing about it and without involving the cell phone provider."

The detail was noted by the ACLU's Rachel Myers on Daily Kos and highlighted in a posting on Ars Technica on Sunday.

Top judge: US and UK acted as 'vigilantes' in Iraq invasion
Former senior law lord condemns 'serious violation of international law'

Richard Norton-Taylor
guardian.co.uk, Tuesday November 18 2008

One of Britain's most authoritative judicial figures last night delivered a blistering attack on the invasion of Iraq, describing it as a serious violation of international law, and accusing Britain and the US of acting like a "world vigilante".

Lord Bingham, in his first major speech since retiring as the senior law lord, rejected the then attorney general's defence of the 2003 invasion as fundamentally flawed.

Contradicting head-on Lord Goldsmith's advice that the invasion was lawful, Bingham stated: "It was not plain that Iraq had failed to comply in a manner justifying resort to force and there were no strong factual grounds or hard evidence to show that it had." Adding his weight to the body of international legal opinion opposed to the invasion, Bingham said that to argue, as the British government had done, that Britain and the US could unilaterally decide that Iraq had broken UN resolutions "passes belief".

Governments were bound by international law as much as by their domestic laws, he said. "The current ministerial code," he added "binding on British ministers, requires them as an overarching duty to 'comply with the law, including international law and treaty obligations'."

The Rule of Law Demands It!!!

War crimes trials? "No, not in America," said Pat Leahy.

One of the articles I read this morning, talked about the disappoinment many Constitution supporting Americans feel regarding the past 8 years of BushCo criminal activity.

Pat Leahy was quoted saying there was no chance of war crimes trials....in America.

He is Conyers counterpart in the Senate judiciary, and he's telling the world that Obama's Democratic majority will ignore the international communities cries for justice.

Is this a technique used to discourage us? Or is it a freudian slip from the mouth of a formerly respected politician, who deep down inside, wants to get caught.

Columbia is being investigated for human rights violations, because they've shown no desire to bring death squad murderers, to justice. Congressmen have written bestsellers about criminal acts by individuals in America's Government, and when presented with an opportunity to enforce the law, chose to profit politically instead. Legally speaking, what's the difference?

Obama's "Blue Dog" advisors, have admitted that they will ignore the previous administrations crimes against humanity, so there is no sense in waiting to be disappointed.

The UN can be an ally in the pursuit of war crimes trials that would undoubtedly eliminate most of the worst Pre-2K politicians in America.

Leahy said, no trials in America.

OK. How about Munich or Geneva? Since Leahy was privy to more information than almost any other Democrat, I'll be looking forward to his testimony.

I borrow from a comment ...

I borrow from a comment over on TP that matches my fears of the future of America...

In Nazi Germany, they too had ‘preventative detention’, at Dachau, Buchenwald, Bergen-Belsen, Ravensbruck, Sachsenhausen, Mauthausen, Oranienburg.

These internees were deemed ‘enemies of the state’ and imprisoned without actually committing any crimes. Just that ‘they might commit a crime in the future’. Even their thoughts were crimes.

If Obama and the Democrat party invokes such measures, then we are INDEED on the road to Auschwitz. BEWARE!

MAX 1 we've been on that road

since ,at the latest, 9/11

Why the discussion?

Even a person with total Alzheimer's remembers "Sometimes"

J C on the other hand has TOTAL AMNESTY(NISIA)

You Max on the other hand ,have proven to be a true American ,by constantly pressing for answers.
Problem is,you are screaming into an echo chamber of a man that used to be.
JC has proven beond all doubt that he DOES NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT AMERICA!

How can JC write about Our Constitution In Crises, win the power to change that situation ,then do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING?

So now are you really surprised, that BUSHIT will pardon everyone?

Operation W.A.N.T.

We Are Not Toys
Seven members from IVAW's LA Chapter staged an early morning action on October 11th, placing 4,200 miniature soldiers around a gas station along with posters declaring "The Price of Gas: 4171 US SOLDIERS" (since the action, the number of US soldiers has climbed to 4,193). Participants in the Operation W.A.N.T. (We Are Not Toys) said their goal was to show average Americans what 4,171 US Soldiers looks like and to connect the deaths of US troops to this country's dependence on foreign oil.

How sad that in 2006, the Democrats "promised" to end the occupation of Iraq only to let George W. Bush, two years later, do it for them... NO? When the Democrats sought to end the illegal occupation of a country that NEVER posed an imminent threat to the U.S.A. the President and his political party derided the Democrats calling them "Defeat-o-crats" who are "appeasers to terrorists", seeking a "surrender to the enemy" while undermining the troops by "cutting and running" because the "Democrats fear success in Iraq" and would rather "settle for loosing". What does this bode for that same political party that let themselves be cowered and run by fear when they now promise "change"?

R E M E M B E R
The Democrats didn't end the illegal occupation of Iraq...
... With a little help from George W. Bush the Iraqi Parliament did.

Just how many U.S. Service men and women HAD TO die just so the Democrats could stand their ground of doing nothing, so that George W. Bush could do it for them?

Vice-President Cheney Indicted!

Associated Press

McALLEN, TX -- A South Texas grand jury has indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County's federal detention centers.

The indictment criticizes Cheney's investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and "at least misdemeanor assaults" on detainees by working through the prison companies.

Gonzales is accused of using his position while in office to stop an investigation into abuses at the federal detention centers.

Another indictment charges state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. with profiting from his public office by accepting honoraria from prison management companies.

The indictments were first reported by KRGV-TV.

There have been numerous reports of torture and abuse in private prisons. Looks like Cheney just can't stop himself!

DICK CHENEY INDICTED!! (Kinda)
Tue Nov 18, 2008 at 05:05:24 PM

The long arm of Rio Grande Valley justice has reached out and nabbed....Dick Cheney?

Yes, apparently. A grand jury has indicted the vice-president this afternoon.

Hasn't the stature of limitations passed on "accidentally" shooting innocent bystanders?

It turns out that it's not the shooting, it's all about Cheney's investment in a group that runs prisons (badly, it's claimed) in Texas.

In other words, it sounds like one runaway, nutty grand jury. Which is something we never thought could exist in the Valley.

But, we guess, if you can't be brought up on war crimes before the World Court in The Hague, we guess it's up to the Willacy County grand jury to do what it can. . . . .

Could this. . . . might this . . . . oh, please let this be . . . . . !!!!!

tahoebasha1,

Here's a "what if" to ponder...

That this is a convienient way to get a blanket pardon granted to Cheney and Gonzales by George W. Bush so as to shield both of these men from further prosecutions of say, WAR CRIMES, TREASON, TORTURE, or MURDER...? This way, George can't be implicated of admitting that WAR CRIMES, TREASON, TORTURE, or MURDER actually took place under these men's guidance and during Bush's, Pelosi's or other Congresscritter's watch...

... Just a "what if" to ponder on.

But of course, HAD Gonzales been impeached, he couldn't be pardoned for the crimes he'd have been impeached for... eh, John? The same goes with Cheney, NO John?

Very good point, Max1!

I had considered that possibility in a vague sort of way, as well. With these people, you can never be sure why what is happening and when, or if it will happen, whatever it is.

On the other side of the coin, remember Al Capone was had for income tax evasion. Or, maybe, too, this might serve as an "ice breaker" -- hard to say. I can tell you this, though, the knowledge of these indictments is out there and spreading, so it won't be quelled anytime soon, as is generally the case. Just have to wait and see! So, what else is new?

"There is nothing to fear but fear itself."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

Now add Eric Holder to the mix...

...and you get the perfect storm of distraction ready for after Bush's expected pardons.

Eric Holder, as a co-conspirator in Clinton's pardons, will be unable to complain about Bush's expected pardons, due to the advice he gave Clinton.

What will the GOP say? "No fair, you did it, why can't we?"

If confirmed, Obama's choice for Attorney General will automatically be at a disadvantage.

We can take the indictment from Texas and add it to the indictments from Vermont. Then throw both of them on Conyers desk to be used as proof of his complicity at a later date.

Of course we'll have to wait until Holder is gone for any hope of prosecution. He's a beneficiary of the civil rights movement, and BushCo used minorities to do his dirty work. Enforcing the law against them, would damage the civil rights movements history.

The last thing these people want is to be looked at as just another dirt bag politician. But isn't that victory? Goldwater said they weren't sophisticated enough to understand how politics works, but he was wrong.

Minorities have now proven themselves to be just as greedy, bloodthirsty and crooked as any fat old white man ever could be. Women too, look at Ann Coulter, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary, and Diane Feinstein.

Congratulations Mr. Conyers. Now, if you could, prove to America that you can be honest too... or are you all nothing but a bunch of Mayor Kwame's and Governor Palin's?

Financial Crisis Tab Already In The Trillions

Given the speed at which the federal government is throwing money at the financial crisis, the average taxpayer, never mind member of Congress, might not be faulted for losing track.

CNBC, however, has been paying very close attention and keeping a running tally of actual spending as well as the commitments involved.

Try $4.28 trillion dollars. That's $4,284,500,000,000 and more than what was spent on WW II, if adjusted for inflation, based on our computations from a variety of estimates and sources*.

Not only is it a astronomical amount of money, its' a complicated cocktail of budgeted dollars, actual spending, guarantees, loans, swaps and other market mechanisms by the Federal Reserve, the Treasury and other offices of government taken over roughly the last year, based on government data and news releases. Strictly speaking, not every cent is a direct result of what's called the financial crisis, but it is arguably related to it.

Some 68-percent of the sum falls under the Federal Reserve's umbrella, while another 16 percent is the under the Troubled Asset Relief Program, TARP, as defined under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, signed into law in early October. (The TARP alone is bigger than virtually any other US government endeavor dating back to the Louisiana Purchase. See slideshow.)

The Democrats got something of a MANDATE, I would think.

Now what's preventing them from pursuing impeachment?

Then GET RID OF HER, YOU FLAG-SALUTERS!

Or was that the way you really wanted it?

And to the Honorable Offer-able Honorable Chairman
of the House Judiciary. Don't forget whose House you
are in.

Alas, the plan was to change Washington from the bottom
up. Oh, but where to start??

I know. Congress. You guys are just about as low as they get.
(Whose Representatives are you? Remind me. Or have you
forgotten too.)

In two years, you'll receive a new mandate if you don't take
advantage of the next (checking my watch)...

Update your resume, Congressman.

Just a friendly reminder. You are not exactly invisible anymore.
(Thanks, Obama.. We owe you one.)

Now, John, you did one good thing, and I thank you for that. You
got the DSM into the House Record.

That's a piece of history that will never ever ever ever ever be forgotten.

Just think. You're going to be famous.

But for what?

Last call! Bottoms Up!

To our new commander in chief:

Hang in there Obama. You may not see us and we may not see
you. Just be yourself, and "steady as she goes". This is almost
for SURE really it.

John? You there still?
Can you tell me where we're headin'.

Hi Ron.

Clever than serpents, gentler than doves.

Wait until you see the eggwhites of their eyes.

The plan was good even if the man wasn't. Nation of laws, not of men.

From the bottom up.

Obama is anti-Obama. Take advantage of it while we can.

Stuart Taylor, Columnist, National Journal and Contributing Editor, Newsweek

David Vladeck, Professor, Georgetown University Law Center

The Rule of Law Demands It!!

Important Actions Needed Right Now -- Including Bush

Pardoning Himself!!

From The People's E-mail Network ("The Pen"):

Congress Must Debate The Implications Of A Bush Self-Pardon

Many people have been asking us, "Could Bush actually pardon himself?". Would it be despicable? Sure it would. Would it be shameless and cowardly? Yes, that and that too. But all those adjectives fit Bush like O.J.'s glove before it shrunk from being soaked completely in blood. Which means he is absolutely is planning on doing it.

And only impeachment could stop it. We need to talk about this. We need Congress to talk about this. And Congress is in session this week, so we need you to speak out this week while there is still time.

Impeach Now Action Page:

Tens of thousands of you submitted the action page on this last week. Do it again. Please speak out again while we still can. There is already a drum beat in the right wing media calling on Bush to pardon his whole administration. Only our voices can raise the price of such action so that there would be real consequences.

We have not given up, and will never give up hope on justice. We will be taking delivery of another huge shipment of the "Impeach Both!!!" caps that are still so popular. But this might be the last batch. So if you want to demonstrate your support for impeachment, please request yours now from the return page of the action page submission.

Impeach Now Action Page

Will Congress now act? That is not the yardstick of the worth of our activism. We speak out because we must speak out, whether we are heeded or not. Let history record that we spoke out until the last minute to the eternal shame of those who did not. Because when enough of us speak out at once, the worst thing that can possibly happen is that we are building the progressive base for the REAL change of the future.

So Bush most certainly is planning on pardoning himself. And all the right wing lock down ideologues in the corporate controlled media will call it "healing". Let's all make nice with war criminals? Shall we all make nice with the gang rape of our economy, our environment and our Constitution? We think not.

And one more thing. You know that come January 20th the right wing will start calling for the impeachment of our new president, over a endless litany of the most ridiculous of trivial trifles. In fact it has already started even though he has not even taken office. If they are so hot on impeaching someone, let them speak out now, when it truly is called for, or shut the hell up in 65 days.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this alert as widely as possible.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler has created H.Res. 1531, a resolution to attempt to prevent pardons of higher level administration officials!

Nadler Introduces Resolution Opposing Possible Bush Pardons of His Own Subordinates for Crimes He Authorized

By David Swanson -- 11-21-2008

Here's a resolution, hot off the presses from Jerrold Nadler, Chair of the Constitution Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee: H.RES.1531, "Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the President of the United States should not issue pardons to senior members of his administration during the final 90 days of his term of office," Sponsor: Rep Nadler, Jerrold [NY-8] (introduced 11/20/2008). There is a petition promoting this resolution, through which you can write to your representative and senators at

Text of resolution and count of cosponsors:
H.Res. 1531

Senator Russ Feingold editorialized against these possible pardons at Salon.com yesterday; please urge him to introduce in the Senate the same resolution that Nadler has in the House. . . . .

Keyston Kongress In Krisis - Green Energy Options

A better way to reform? Tried that, John. The ONLY way to reform is to get Congress' powers back.

http://usconstitution.net/const.html#A1Sec8 50% is not an outstanding grade, Honorable Chairman.

Let's take a break from John's brilliant ideas and talk about reality for a change. Why is Congress such a joke. And how did the...

Answer my friends, is Gonyers With The Wind...

Blown right off the table by Miss Leadership, strangled in the Judiciary, spiked by our Honorable Chairman, shredded by the delusionatti, and dumped in the bin out back.

So, let's presume that there is a good reason not to pursue impeachment. It's a false presumption but let's look at what we have to work with.

MAMMON! For starters...

Giving the oil companies tax breaks and refusing to put a bottom under the price of oil may not be the best way to approach alternative energy solutions.

Who in their right mind would seek out new energy forms and new worlds where no woman has gone before when OPEC can simply reduce the price of oil and leave them holding responsibility for the (thankfully) unavailable credit to get started?

They will never get up to speed, the products will never become efficient, because your assholes in Congress have let the rudder go. (Art 1, sec 8, re. commerce, and useful arts.)

Worse.

Right now things are going on that the Congress has likewise refused to act on, and one of them is Bush's Scorched Earth play.

Perhaps the Democratic human shield in the People's House will think this blame game will work in their favor? Well, it's painful enough to watch, but to tolerate it's perpetuation is.. Well...

What deregulatory powers does the inherent Executive branch have? Art 1, Sec 1. Art 1, Sec 7 (veto).

But nevermind the Executive for the moment. Who let it off its chain?

Well, I'll be darned.

If it isn't those assholes in Congress again. (That's one "fine" American tradition we'd better bury at gettysburg and KEEP it buried this time. Disclaimer: Relax soldier. I'm talking about black-ops.)

Greens (e.g., McKinney et al.), get ready to catch a pass.

Most voters still don't know where they are on the political compass relative to their (ahem) "leaders".

The Truth is Here! http://politicalcompass.org

Both left and right are seemingly oblivious to their own true allegiances.

So... Does change come to Washington from the bottom up? If you hate Obama or love him the answer is the same. (That's why I love him.)

But the election is over and it no longer matters. We have one President at a time, and when Bush is out: No more Republican Rules. It's Rule of Law.

And it's already been translated into English. Behold!

http://usconstitution.net/const.html#Article6

AND...

Congressional terms are only 2 years and the Dems will need a place to run to.

Need a good starting point? Try this.

Push the IRV and point out the absurd costs of these phony scripted wrestling matches. Point out that big money, the SAME big money finances both of the major parties. (House Record, 110th, "Secretary Paulson earned $16.4 million", find the chart.)

Why would BofA, for example, contribute tons of loot to both the Dems and the Republicans? There is no way to withdraw contributions if your pick changes their stance in mid-play. That's one possibility. But for so many of these guys to have done it? There has to be another reason.

Is there a way to infer the obvious from what is missing?

Q. What is conspicuous by its absence?

A. Real debate.

(Find whitewater 900+ times in 102nd and 103rd, find downing street less than two dozen times, and most the hits are not about the DSM. I checked about a year ago last time, but due to the silence in the morgue I have not felt it worth my time to see if the poor in spirit had developed any brain power of late.)
