$48,000 Raised - Now Let's Help Michigan Candidates

Our fundraising push to help three Democratic candidates was a huge success. We raised over $48,000 while also attracting over 450 election protection volunteers. We managed to do so well because of the tremendous excitement and commitment to a Democratic victory on November 7th.

I am directing my focus now to three Michigan candidates who would make excellent Members of Congress. They are committed progressives who would represent all of us well in Washington. These candidates are in a great position to win, but need to fight against a very well funded Republican attack machine.

Help out if you can by giving generously or volunteering to help get out the vote. These are both very important to winning and you can help make a difference in the fight to win the House.

I bring this up because it is an authoritative examination of the destination at the end of the road we are headed down. It is a finding, regarding the probable shape of the future. This differs signifigantly from a speculation on the same subject. This is the kind of stuff that is supposed to be held under the noses of those who use phrases like "Conspiracy Theorist".

Dead and Wounded

33,838 wounded and 2,817 killed

And that is just our guys. Also worthwhile to note the Iraqi Police sustained, in the last month, 185 casualties, of which 119 are dead. 64%. And we may assume some attention was given to many of these. Given that assumption, what are we to assume about the ratio of wounded to dead among other Iraqies?

Note also, just how fast and thouroughly someone would be thrown out of any public venue if he were to use language as vile as what I just said here, now.

I mean, could I get away with posting GDMFSOB the long way? But I can say "33,838 wounded and 2,817 killed" without raising a hackle.

Missing in action is the replacement (where it won't get read) for the number 33,838. Perhaps we are to be thankful for being protected from such bitter knowledge,.,.,.,Y'spose?

The theft of American elections is a media issue
The loss of our right to vote (or have it counted) is a media issue which is why you are all getting this email. I've talked a lot about the effects of media ownership consolidation on the destruction of democracy by permitting a few corporations to fail to report the essential information we need to be a self-governing people. Not only does the main stream media refuse to investigate and report on the impossible discrepancies between the 'official' count and the exit polls, but they are actively complicit in this fraud. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox and the AP own the exit polls and have defied John Conyers' request for the raw data, keeping that data secreted from even qualified independent researchers.

We are all trying to take optimism from the lead democrats have in the polls going into the election. Keep in mind that they had these leads in 2002, when the Republicans got themselves total control, and they had even greater promise going into the 2004 elections. the time will come for the netroots to insist that America needs to FIX accountability, INSTATE justice, and REPAIR a serious flaw in the US Constitution.

7) Reforms to US Constitution, Governance

The New Constitution planning continues. American citizens should continue to work with their friends to solicit inputs, foster discussion, and encourage open debate outside Congress on what changes are required to prevent this abuse of power.

These Constitutional reforms can be implemented with a New Constitution, in accordance with Federalist 78, and do not require the Amendment process, only government sponsored changes.

A. Prepare Voter Comments

Voter and citizen comments should be organized into problem-remedy format. The goal is to outline an improvement of the Constitutional system. Some changes include creating a tri-cameral system; or splitting the Executive into two or three different Presidents. Other ideas include diluting the power of the senate and transferring Congressional Oversight to State-level regulated entities.

B. Identify Remedies To One-Party Control

Voters have the power to choose their candidates. However, we've seen the abuses under the Republican party. The discussion should focus on the reasonable way that a single party, if it controls all three branches, can be credibly checked. Some ideas include mandatory minority-party leadership; or splitting the Chairmanship on the basis of time: If a minority party has 10% of the votes, then it should control the Chairmanship on all committees 10% of the time.

C. Method to Credibly Enforce Oath of Office

5 USC 3331 is the Member of Congress oath of office. The problem has been the failure of the House Ethics Committee, Attorney General, and Department of Justice to effectively enforce 5 USC 3331, especially during times of Presidential rebellion against the Constitution.

There must be a method to effectively sanction members of Congress for 5 USC 3331 violations. The Constitution should include reminders for the State-level actors to enforce federal law when Federal officials fail to protect the states' guaranteed right to an enforcement mechanism under a Constitutional Republic.

Although I have not addressed the subject much, the groundwork is in place through the debates found in the Federalist and Anti Federalist papers. They continue the work of the founding fathers Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton. They understood that unresolved issues or unforeseen forces may appear long after their lives have expired. They left open the door that perhaps the balance they struck would not be perfect. That perhaps, these unresolved debates would find answers with time. Time that, only through their written letters and debates, could they reach across.

The time will come soon that America and the netroots will need to reassess what occurred that almost allowed the Constitution to fail freedom and democracy. After a thorough investigation into how this has occurred, we can address solutions based upon the written debates of our founding fathers and the agreed upon weaknesses that were exploited.

It will be then that history will recognize the founding fathers true greatness and their foresight fully understood. We must prepare the groundwork for the people to gain acceptance that something went wrong; terribly wrong. We must make people understand that we are not destroying what was created back in 1787, but rather they are reaching across some 220 odd years to help guide us in maintaining our freedoms and liberties. That they too saw foresaw that this may happen and they are giving us their permission and guidance to correct the situation.

I've seen a preview screening of this movie and it covers people right there on the ground in Ohio. While a lot of time is spent covering dumpster diving, the movie effectively chronicles the efforts of active citizens who wouldn't stand idly by as electoral misconduct proliferated.

I think, upon reflection, it is those who would not stand idly by who have done most of the good in our world. While I must admit that I am shocked by the depth of the betrayal, when you think about it, the bad guy always has the advantage. He gets to decide whether and when to screw the rest of us, And How, and it is only then, after the fact, that a response becomes reasonable, appropriate, for that matter, possible. It is very rare for the bad guy to give fair warning.

Here is an example of one such, being addressed by those who would not stand idly by.

If you happenstance to peruse Nancy Skinner's website, you will quickly learn that she is not afraid to speak the truth and has gonads bigger than Dennis Hastert.

Replace those responsible for U.S. missteps. In order to win back the trust and respect of the world community, we must hold accountable those leaders who have put us in this situation. Bush invokes Insurrection act.... whats up his sleeve

President Bush has signed into law a provision which, according to Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), will actually encourage the President to declare federal martial law (1). It does so by revising the Insurrection Act, a set of laws that limits the President's ability to deploy troops within the United States. The Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335) has historically, along with the Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385), helped to enforce strict prohibitions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement. With one cloaked swipe of his pen, Bush is seeking to undo those prohibitions.

Public Law 109-364, or the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122) (2), which was signed by the commander in chief on October 17th, 2006, in a private Oval Office ceremony, allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder."

President Bush seized this unprecedented power on the very same day that he signed the equally odious Military Commissions Act of 2006. In a sense, the two laws complement one another. One allows for torture and detention abroad, while the other seeks to enforce acquiescence at home, preparing to order the military onto the streets of America. Remember, the term for putting an area under military law enforcement control is precise; the term is "martial law."

Make no mistake about it: the de-facto repeal of the Posse Comitatus Act (PCA) is an ominous assault on American democratic tradition and jurisprudence. The 1878 Act, which reads, "Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both," is the only U.S. criminal statute that outlaws military operations directed against the American people under the cover of 'law enforcement.' As such, it has been the best protection we've had against the power-hungry intentions of an unscrupulous and reckless executive, an executive intent on using force to enforce its will.

Unfortunately, this past week, the president dealt posse comitatus, along with American democracy, a near fatal blow. Consequently, it will take an aroused citizenry to undo the damage wrought by this horrendous act, part and parcel, as we have seen, of a long train of abuses and outrages perpetrated by this authoritarian administration.

Despite the unprecedented and shocking nature of this act, there has been no outcry in the American media, and little reaction from our elected officials in Congress. On September 19th, a lone Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) noted that 2007's Defense Authorization Act contained a "widely opposed provision to allow the President more control over the National Guard [adopting] changes to the Insurrection Act, which will make it easier for this or any future President to use the military to restore domestic order WITHOUT the consent of the nation's governors."

Senator Leahy went on to stress that, "we certainly do not need to make it easier for Presidents to declare martial law. Invoking the Insurrection Act and using the military for law enforcement activities goes against some of the central tenets of our democracy. One can easily envision governors and mayors in charge of an emergency having to constantly look over their shoulders while someone who has never visited their communities gives the orders."

The historic and ominous re-writing of the Insurrection Act, accomplished in the dead of night, which gives Bush the legal authority to declare martial law, is now an accomplished fact.

The Pentagon, as one might expect, plays an even more direct role in martial law operations. Title XIV of the new law, entitled, "Homeland Defense Technology Transfer Legislative Provisions," authorizes "the Secretary of Defense to create a Homeland Defense Technology Transfer Consortium to improve the effectiveness of the Department of Defense (DOD) processes for identifying and deploying relevant DOD technology to federal, State, and local first responders."

In other words, the law facilitates the "transfer" of the newest in so-called "crowd control" technology and other weaponry designed to suppress dissent from the Pentagon to local militarized police units. The new law builds on and further codifies earlier "technology transfer" agreements, specifically the 1995 DOD-Justice Department memorandum of agreement achieved back during the Clinton-Reno regime.(4)

It has become clear in recent months that a critical mass of the American people have seen through the lies of the Bush administration; with the president's polls at an historic low, growing resistance to the war Iraq, and the Democrats likely to take back the Congress in mid-term elections, the Bush administration is on the ropes. And so it is particularly worrying that President Bush has seen fit, at this juncture to, in effect, declare himself dictator.

Do we need a run away, self described Unitary Executive Decider ripping the rivets out of the Constitution that holds these United States of America together? Aren't the Bill of Rights the sole delineation OF what makes America, America? What are we when those fundamentals are ripped out of the hull that keeps us afloat? But sunk.

The Bush administration did so under pressure from Congressional Republicans who had said they hoped to "leverage the Internet" to find new evidence of the prewar dangers posed by Saddam Hussein.

And although the blame for our failures in Iraq rests with the secretary, it will be the troops who bear its brunt. This is not about the Midterm elections. Regardless of which party wins Nov. 7, the time has come, Mr. President, to face the hard bruising truth: Donald Rumsfeld must go."

What compelled them to take such unprecedented action on the very eve of the most crucial Midterm election in American history?

1) Bush and his partisan hacks ignored warnings in the summer of 2001 that Al Qaeda would attack the United States.

2) The misconduct of Bush and his partisan hacks on the days before 9/11, on 9/11 itself, and in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 was treasonous.

3) Bush and his partisan hacks refused to deploy the 10th Mountain Division to Tora Bora in December of 2001, and Bin Laden escaped.

4) Bush and his partisan hacks conspired to launch an illegal war against Iraq, unleashed that illegal war in defiance of international law, and have conspired to conceal their treachery ever since.

5) Their illegal occupation of Iraq has inflicted more than twenty-three thousand American casualties, has cost $400 billion dollars, and has increased terrorism.

6) Bush and his partisan hacks destroyed a covert CIA network working to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

7) Bush and his partisan hacks have abandoned Afghanistan to the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

8) Bush and his partisan hacks are decimating the finest volunteer army ever fielded, and Cheney just vowed to continue this decimation "full speed ahead."

9) Bush and his partisan hacks are presiding over and directing a war profiteering binge of staggering proportions, while the families of American soldiers have to wait in line for food donations on bases all across this country, and must borrow from predatory lenders so they can pay their bills.

10) Bush and his partisan hacks have already lost two wars, but are plotting to attack Iran because their war profiteering binge thus far has only whetted the appetite of their corrupt defense contractor co-extortionists.

11) Bush and his partisan hacks have seized control of the National Guard from state governors, in violation of the Constitution.

12) Bush and his partisan hacks have implemented the Military Commissions Act, in violation of the Geneva Convention and the Constitution.

13) Bush and his partisan hacks have published atomic bomb making information on the Internet, thus escalating the threat of a terrorist nuclear attack on the United States.

14) Bush and his partisan hacks have eliminated the last remaining oversight capacity of Congress and have thus ensured that billions more dollars will vanish into the bloody, bottomless pit of Iraq.

15) Bush and his partisan hacks have vowed that Rumsfeld will remain in power at the Pentagon until the end of Bush,s presidency.

If this simmering revolt in the Pentagon is any indication, the end of Bush,s presidency may come sooner than the Chickenhawk-in-Chief and his F-Troop ass kissers in our hijacked White House and on Corruption Hill think it will. When that end comes, it won,t be a minute too soon for our soldiers in the blasted wasteland of Iraq, for this humiliated country, and for this fearful world.

The Midterms and ensuing investigations may hasten that end, but if yet another election is stolen by Bush and his partisan hacks, the sight of Abrams tanks on the South Lawn of the White House may greet us one winter morning when we turn on the news. After the surreal six years we,ve just been through, who among us can say it won,t happen?
