Taking it to Cincinnati
Cross-posted at TakeBackCincinnati.com
I made the trip to Cincinnati today to help my friend John Cranley, who is running for Congress in Ohio's 1st Congressional District. You remember we helped raise over $15,000 for John last week.
Well, I felt I had to make the trip to Cincinnati because Cranley's opponent, Rep. Steve Chabot, had been telling everyone that he had my support because of his civil rights record.
You can imagine my surprise at learning this knowing that Chabot has long supported the modern day version of the poll tax, the photo ID voting requirement. This measure would impose unnecessary barriers to vote for the most vulnerable American citizens - African Americans, the elderly, the poor and the disabled.
I was also surprised that Steve Chabot would claim my support knowing that he had also worked to cripple the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights for years using his subcommittee to tie up the commission,s resources with false allegations of misconduct that had no merit.
And of course, Steve Chabot was one of those people who supported Ken Blackwell's work in 2004 to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters
So, I took a flight from Detroit to Cincinnati and spent the day with Chabot's opponent, a rising star in Democratic politics, John Cranley.
I joined John meeting with local ministers at the Southern Baptist Church. We discussed the issues that Cincinnati residents are facing and had a nice lunch. Reverend Pankie led us in prayer and it was good to see old friends again in the southern Ohio area.
Mr. Cranley and I also dropped by the radio show, the Buzz, where local DJ Jay Love interviewed John and I talking about the issues that face the African-American community in Cincinnati.
The Republican Chabot is the type of guy who would blame his opponent for the riots that occurred in 2001. No really. He's been doing that. So Jay Love, Cranley and I had a good laugh over that and spoke to the Cincinnati audience about how important the upcoming election was and why they need to get to the polls.
I had a great time with John Cranley and hope to work with him in the 110th Congress. Right now it's all down to turnout. Make sure you vote.

Thank you for the updates,
Thank you for the updates, Congressman Conyers, and keeping us focused on the election. I'm nervous but psyched.
And now for the rats getting ready to jump ship. What are the neocons afraid of that we don't know yet - that we REALLY will take the House and Senate? Afraid the exit polls will be so out of whack with compromised election machines that they give up on the plan of ripping us off a third time?

Commercial Break: Sorry I missed you yesterday, TIA. That would have put the cherry on top of my banana split.
And now back to the program: Richard Perle, Eliot Cohen, Kenneth Adelman and PNAC
What have they really learned? Reading how these war criminals point fingers at each other makes me sick. They show no signs of remorse. Instead we get, "the idea was right (to export democracy by force), but the people carrying it out were incompetent." and, "The idea is now dead for a generation." In other words, what we did was right, but it failed because others were incompetent. Now our quest for imperialistic rule will have wait a generation, because this generation has seen our abuses and they won't get fooled again.
The Democratic leadership needs to take heed and they need to learn from these admissions. Otherwise they will do it again, and again, and again. Only next time, whose to say they won't succeed in supplanting the Constitution with fascism. Use more force and abuse to implement illegal regime change; exporting "democracy" upon people that do not want it, while importing dictatorship upon the American people.
Even faced with the reality of their own failures, they refuse to accept any responsibility. The only way to stop this neocon agenda is to bring a fair and just judgement upon them. They need their day in court to show them and others that their ideas are morally wrong.
Fixes need to be emplaced or this country will be damned to repeat this completely reprehensible scenario generation, after generation, after generation.
Even though the noecons will not, nor may they ever face reality, groundwork must be laid in order to prepare America to face the stark reality: America was wrong to take this course. Stop saying and perpetuating the idea, "We need to win in Iraq." We lost this war on the very first day we invaded Iraq. Only by removing this obstacle, can the tough job of accountability begin. America must realize that there is really only one way for her to win this war: Admit we were wrong, make reparations and take our place once again as a respected nation in the world.
This will not be easy by any means. There will be many that will resist coming to grips with our errors. There will be those that say, "This will show others that we are weak. This will embolden the terrorists. The terrorists came to us on 9-11, not the other way around."
But I was always taught, "It takes a bigger man to admit when he is wrong and apologize." Likewise, the sooner America realizes that we were wrong and admit that we are no longer that young innocent country without "sin", the sooner we will re-establish our credibility and respect amongst other nations in the international community
Style
Congressman Conyers,
Thank you for showing what integrity and style looks like in todays culture. Your character is one of truth and honesty. This shall never be forgotten. Hopefully it will not be lost either. Chin up, march forward... Four days and some hours to go...

What's this TIA?
You say some of the other war criminals are starting to squeal; or as the old saying goes, "Sing" in hopes of exonerating their guilt.
OR
Just perhaps they caught wind of this editorial being published in the Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, & Air Force Times calling for the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld. While plausible, assigning all the blame on one scapegoat, I think there is even a deeper underlying reason. I found a story from The Nation via this blog. I think the title the story says it all: War Criminals, Beware. The passage of the Mangled Constitution Act is a line they never should have crossed.
Very interesting...
Yep, could be they got wind of that. That's really something, Reed.
It just proves that blind hubris and insulating yourself with "like minded individuals" will do you in. Looks like pretty soon it will be every neocon for himself.

An outstanding meeting today
There was a good discussion of what tactics the Rovian GOP fascists may use to steal or perhaps even postpone elections. But before I go into all the sordid detail, do not lose sight that there are only three significant possible outcomes of this election. There are really four, but one is thrown out for obvious reasons.
One possibility is that Karl Rove and Tony Snowe can pull a rabbit out of a hat and magically produce a GOP majority House and Senate. On the flip side of that is the possibility that half of the reverends, preachers, and ministers all declare that they too solicited massages and crystal meth, resulting in a landslide DEM majority in the House and Senate. A third possibility, and the most likely, is a DEM majority House and a GOP majority Senate. I threw out the last possibility, which is a DEM majority Senate with the GOP retaining control of the House.
Feline said it best today, plan for the worst and hope for the best. As you can see, each separate resultant possibility will require a different strategy in proceeding forward to restore balance to our Nation and the Constitution.
Now to the nitpicking tactics in no particular order:
Martial to suspend the election. Can't happen on a national level. Even if supplemented by local police, there will not be enough time, personnel, or equipment to institute a plan.
This latest scandal in Colorado has left many of the faith-based GOP voters reluctant to vote on Tuesday. AZ, which WAS considered fairly safe for the SEN race, is now in play.
Has the military finally had enough? The blistering editorial in the four service papers calling for Rumsfeld's resignation one day before the election is definantly sending a message.
Someone forgot to turn off the black propaganda fear machine. There are two stories out there that make no sense to me. The first is the Iran missile test story. In an obvious manuever to provoke war with Iran, why would Iran then test fire dozens of missiles. Especially when their enemy BushCo is facing defeat at home? Who gains the most from this story? BushCo of course.
And then there is the story about a recent security breach at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This atory makes even less sense. A 22 year old woman with unrestricted access to classified documents "who owned the trailer" raided for drugs, is the prime suspect?
There is another little problem: something called two man control. Even though she may have the requisite clearance level, there should alway be two man control when accessing these types of documents. Something is rotten in Los Alamos.
It seems as though the news media has finally caught on to the election night train wreck that is about to occur with electronic voting. Will the GOP attempt to steal the election? YES. Will the GOP steal a seat or two? YES. Will the GOP steal the House again? NO WAY.
The corruption is unbelievable
Reed, thanks for that post on the Army Times that I've heard so much about. I scanned to the bottom and another interesting article appeared.
Congressman Conyers, were you aware that Congress had tucked into a bill the closing of the Iraq Auditor's office? Sorry if this was posted earlier. I just cannot believe the corruption of the Republicans. It's mind boggling. I truly cannot get my mind around it all.
Just another way to protect their and their buddies (Halliburton subs et al) hides.

I remember watching Sound of Music when I was a child and feeling my heart race as the Von Trapp family made its escape from Nazified Austria. I could never have imagined that a day would come when those wanting to leave the United States would be forced to "make a run" for the border to evade a myriad of obstacles placed by an American government in the path of those who wished to exercise their fundamental human right to emigrate.
That day has not yet arrived. But it will on January 14.
What did they know...
The question must be asked: What did they know and when did they know it?
The case OF incompetence hinges on it.
The Administration holds up heirs of incompetence concerning everything they have their hands on. Be it from pre-9/11 intelligence, ground zero environment, estimates on al-Qaeda and their leaders, Torah Bora and the escape of OBL, proliferation of fissionable materials(especially in N. Korea), estimates of WMD's in Iraq, outing of a covert agent, FEMA/Katrina response, Abramoff/K. Street lobbying, privatization of the military... This is just a start, NO?
They knew that Iraq was going to be costly, both in man power needed and the resulting chaos that would have sprung from any attempt to invade.
1999 war games foresaw problems in Iraq
Who do they think they are? And more importantly, who does our Congress think they are by allowing this hubris to even exist? Reprehensible behavior like this is not, NOT(!) an American Value.
There Will Be No Forgiveness
In an Daily Kos diary last summer I defined the relentless Republican assault upon our Constitutional form of government, our voting rights, our civil liberties, and on the very air we breathe and water we drink as an American Holocaust. The response was deafening silence, broken only by criticism from a few people who seem to consider the mass murder of European Jews to be some sort of sacred historical icon, which must be kept pure and undefiled by never mentioning it in comparison to anything, anywhere, at any time. I was accused of "using" the deaths of six million human beings in the Nazi death camps as a cheap rhetorical device and was lectured about "going too far" with a "bad analogy."
On this eve of Karmageddon, I,m going to defy the self-appointed Daily Kos Credibility Police once again (Hi. Welcome to ConyersBlog) by pointing out the harsh reality that at least 40 percent of American voters are going to vote on Tuesday for nicely-groomed and well-dressed fascists. In surreal post-9/11 America, these fascists call themselves Republicans, and that familiar label renders them immune from any form of accountability in the minds of nearly half the electorate. Their voting records and the bills they,ve passed prove that they do not even remotely resemble traditional Republicans, but they will still reap at least 80 percent of Republican votes because tens of millions of these people have ridden Reichsfuhrer Rove,s trains of Republican propaganda into concentration camps of the mind, where fear, racism, paranoia, and hatred render rational political thought impossible.
That, Daily Kos Credibility Police and any other doubters, is a political Holocaust. America's degeneration under Republican rule from the greatest democracy on earth into the People's Republic of Orwell cannot be described as anything less. But it is not the only Holocaust we are witnessing. The pervasive control of Diebold, ES& S, and Sequioa, and K-Street lobbyists over our voting process is an electoral Holocaust. The Republican bankrupting of our Treasury for generations is an economic Holocaust. The decimation of our Army and National Guard in Bush,s bloody occupation of Iraq is a military Holocaust. The ravaging of the earth, poisoning of our air and water, and destruction of the earth,s protective ozone layer is an environmental Holocaust.
Where are the death camps? Go to Baghdad. Take a stroll around that mindless factory of death. Visit the morgues overflowing with the corpses of the innocent. Go to Fallujah, where white phosphorus still burns in the nightmares of the survivors. Go to Ramadi and watch a city of 400,000 people turn into a ghost town before your eyes. Go to New Orleans, where thousands of Americans were left behind to die and GOP ethnic cleansing is being perpetrated, treacherously disguised as "hurricane relief delays."
Where are the ovens? If we do not begin to reverse global warming within ten years, this whole planet will become an oven. With ruthless efficiency and boundless greed, Republicans have gutted environmental safeguards and buried environmental activists, scientists, and the public under an avalanche of denials and corporate propaganda. We are staring at the extinction of the entire human race and life on earth itself in a Global Greenhouse Oven bought and paid for by the Republican Party and their Economic Establishment SS if we do not take Congress back and restore sanity and responsibility to our government.
Those who insist that the Nazi Holocaust was a horrific aberration so obscene it belongs in an isolated historical category beyond comparison might want to review what has been happening since Bush was appointed Lord and Master of the People,s Republic of Orwell back in 2001. The Bush White House, the Republican Congress, the DHS, the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, and the Republican Party have been ruthlessly expanding their power and are determined to destroy anyone who dares to tell the truth about them. They have not "kept us safe" from our enemies, they have become our enemies. For six years, they have stolen our elections, gutted our Constitution, broken our laws, betrayed our soldiers, and bankrupted our country. They aren't waging a war on terror, they are waging a war against the truth itself, and hundreds of millions of progressives, environmentalists, working class people, and the poor in every nation in this world have been the victims.
This criminal president and his Republican bootlickers in Congress have wreaked one Holocaust after another on our Constitutional form of government, our laws, our civil liberties, our economy, our military, our self-respect, and our very identity as Americans. George Walker Bush, Richard Bruce Cheney, and every bought and paid for partisan mercenary of that mind killing Rovian Auschwitz called the Republican Party will face judgment. Robocalls will not save them. Diebold will not save them. A billion absentee ballot votes from every demon in Hell will not save them.
They will find no refuge.
There will be no forgiveness.
They will be indicted on November 7.
We,ll need ropes. Lots of ropes.

Curiouser and Curiouser
Asleep at the wheel...until I hear a large crash in my head. It was the combination of atoms and synapses firing at the great "Ah-Ha" running in my head. We all saw it. We couldn't believe it. We all dismissed it.
Allow me, if you will, to remind everyone of the great "Faux-Paus" leaked by the Republican PR firm, MSM, about a little known incident concerning sensitive documents. See, someone was found to be in possession of documents that, once exposed, placed the welfare and lives of every single person on this globe in peril. Investigations were called for, but what is happening with those investigations?
And why is the MSM so silent?
Has this Main Street Media turned into Mumm Shhh Mumm?
A quick nuclear primer for those lost on my gibberish...
(pay close attn. to the date)
U.S. Web Archive Is Said to Reveal a Nuclear Primer
So we see here a rush to acquit themselves of blame, or to exonerate themselves of misjudgment concerning Iraq's WMD program, depends on how they were examining themselves in this situation. But in doing so, exposed the world to the potentiality of a rogue nation or terrorist group obtaining this information by simply downloading it from a public web page. Can the Administration guarantee that this information didn't reach the enemy or a rogue nation? Can they? No, they can not. Keep that in mind.
Secondly, this article goes on to elaborate, in detail, the knowledge and degree to how they were warned of the sensitivity of said documents. And yet they blindly proceeded forward and published these sensitive, unresearched/investigated documents for all to see, download, copy, and pass/sell around.
Remember... Aug.6, 2001...a shot fired across the bow and not heeded.
Congressman Conyers, when is it not Treasonous to supply or make available, to your known enemy, information that can be used against your own countrymen? When it is used against you? Is this what the silence is all about? Are we waiting for the "MUSHROOM CLOUD" so that we're taken aback, dismayed and bewildered, shocked into submission so as to seem silly to even question, "How the hell?" Least we be labeled "conspiracy theorists"?
Remember the date?
Go figure...
Nuclear Lab Breach Could Be 'Devastating'
Besides the obvious being that the room mate gets five to twenty for possession, the Los Alamos worker is not arrested for the unlawful removal of sensitive data/information/documents. During this day and age, I would think that she would have been hustled off and immediately "DUNKED" Cheney style in Gitmo. Especially since the fact remains, in that lab, she would have had to check out this information, so I would at least be curious about who her partner in crime was. Wouldn't you? Maybe I just have too high an expectation of the BushCo "take-em away" plan, NO?
Now, the troubling similarity to both incidents happening on the same day begs to be asked.
Q U E S I O N:
Are these two incidents related? A really, really good day for the FBI? Or a rouse to divert attention from the heart of the matter...That Bush authorized the publication of documents, against better advisement, that could come back to haunt each and every one of us? How much unsecured proliferated material is estimated to be "LOST"?
Thanks for reading this gibberish.

I shall now proceed back to my corner, foil lined hard hat securely in place,

We fixed this already.
As I recall ( your reccolection may vary) the security problems at Los Alamos were turned over to Halliburton. So they have been fixed. It upsets me tremendously that anyone should say otherwise. Because that messes with the carefully scripted fantasy every patriotic American insists every other American insist upon.
Now, Everyone, Yes I mean You too, stick your fingers in your ears and repeat after me.
"LA-LA! LA-LA!LA-LA!LA-LA!LA-LA!LA-LA!LA-LA!LA-LA!"
That's Good. Very Good. Now keep that up for the rest of your lives, or there will be a terrorist incident. Under no circumstance are any of you to read This Story, and any of you who do are definatly not to read That Story. Either of them is tantamount to questioning authourity (which no free person would dare to do), but togeather they are God-quiveringly dangerous because of the critical thinking that will inevitably result from the comparison and lead the insufficently brainwashed to wonder about prohibited topics.
If this is less that clear, consider the example set for you by P.O.O., who ,,, blesses us hereabove, and just do the do-do poo do just like poo do the do-do, and that way shit work out right (wing). The only thing we have to fear is complacency ! Complacency must, and shall be rooted out where, ever it may be, and be ruthlessly exploited for partisan bickering until alarmist defeatofashcits raise your tactics !
Now, everybody, on the count of three, SHUT UP !
