Now the Hard Part Begins

Submitted by JC on November 15, 2006 - 1:09pm.

We did it! We won at least 29 House seats and took the majority. We won 6 Senate seats and took back the Senate too, not to mention 28 Governors and several more statehouses. We had incredible turnout of Democratic voters across the country. Thanks to you, we had a vigorous election protection program in place to fight those who would restrict our right to vote. We ran a positive campaign on the issues that really matter to American voters.

The past two years we have worked very hard to bring a new majority to Congress and to restore accountability in Washington. We have fought together on issues such as the unanswered irregularities in the Ohio presidential election, the scandal of the Downing Street Minutes, the shame of outing a CIA agent, and much more. Together we proved that a number of dedicated online activists, working in conjunction with a single congressman, could become a force to be reckoned with.

Although we won back control of Congress, none of us should delude ourselves into thinking that running the legislative branch in a nation wracked by years of one party rule will be easy. We need to put aside any thought of anger or payback. Instead we need to focus on identifying and correcting abuses and pass legislation which serves the interests of the American people.

We also need to recapture the White House in 2008 and maintain and expand our majorities in the Congress. In order to achieve these goals we need to be totally united as a Party. It is fine to debate and argue behind closed doors and among ourselves, but at the end of the day, we owe it to the American people to unite and lead.

Thus, in my opinion it serve,s no one,s interests but the Republicans for anyone, including my friend James Carville, to suggest dumping DNC Chairman Dean less than three days after the most sweeping Democratic Congressional victory in more than thirty years. As many of you also know, I have agreed with Speaker-to-be Pelosi that impeachment is off the table. Instead, we agree that oversight, accountability and checks and balances - which have been sorely lacking for the last six years - must occur. I have nothing but respect for those who might disagree, but that is where I come out.

Having devoted a considerable amount of time and attention to detailing the many abuses of the Bush Administration, I firmly believe that we have brought these matters to the attention of the American people and the mainstream media, and that their verdict was reflected in the elections on November 7. I consider the now famous "basement hearings" and the issuance of my "Constitution in Crisis" Report to be among the watershed achievements of my more than forty years in Congress.

I also remain committed to the seminal issue of election reform. As one who held several hearings in the immediate aftermath of the Ohio debacle and went on to author "What Went Wrong in Ohio," I believe more than ever that we need a paper trail on voting machines. We also need to strengthen our laws to put an end to intimidation schemes, like the stealth robo-calls voters received before the election. I intend to introduce legislation next Congress concerning these matters.

Additionally, none of us should underestimate the continued anger and vitriol of our political opponents, even after the election they are engaged in a permanent campaign to discredit Democrats and thwart our agenda of change. You need to go no further than the November 9 editorial in the supposedly mainstream Investors Business Daily, which smeared not only me but my constituents, writing, "[Michigan congressman John] Conyers led the defense of Bill Clinton in last decade's impeachment hearings and is clearly out for blood. So are many of the constituents he serves." Pejorative and prejudiced statements like this should have no place in our political discourse.

I am hopeful that I will be selected as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Committee is one of the most important committees in the House, and has jurisdiction over the Justice Department, the civil rights laws, criminal laws, the civil justice system, the courts, immigration laws, antitrust laws, patent and copyright laws, bankruptcy laws, administrative law, and Constitutional amendments. If I am selected as Chair, I believe it will place us in a position to make real and meaningful changes for the good of the American people.

We remain in this together, and I continue to look forward to receiving your ideas, your support, and your advice in the coming months and years.

Your Friend,

John Conyers, Jr.

Look forward to the change of direction in this country

John,

This is my first time on your blog. I look forward of hearing from you and the other Democrats and your agenda to dramp the swamp in this country. I am glad that the Democrats took the House and the Senate. But, we have a lot of work to do. And we hold you and the Democrat officials that we put in office accountable. There is no free lunch after the election for the Democrats. There has been alot of negative buzz from the public and the media that the Democrats doesn't have plan for Iraq. Also, there have been questions by the public to why Nancy Pelosi won't impeach the President. I would like to see the Democrats in January 2007 to not only talk to talk but walk the walk. The 109th Congress to be quite frankly sucked big time. If there was ever a ballot measure to withhold the 109th Congress their pay checks and give them a tin cup to panhandle for their salary, I would have signed that ballot. I hope that the 110th Congress is improved and willing to listen and serve the people and not just look for their bi-weekly checks. Make us proud John. I look forward to your agenda.. Thanks!

SP Biloxi

This Post Certainly Got Things Started, SP Biloxi!!

This is my first time on this blog too. There's a great deal of anger here as to why the Dems won't try to impeach Bush and have a specific plan to leave Iraq. That's understandable. Bush has led the country to the first phases of fascism and the attack and occupation of Iraq is illegal, and deeply immoral. But politics in the U.S. has to be understood within the context of a people who are, compared to those in other "democratic" nations, quite conservative, militaristic, semi-literate and easily manipulated by the mass media. The corporate media have been cheerleaders for the Iraq fiasco and label those of us who are concerned about civil liberties, torture, renditions, domestic spying and the like as "liberals." The same label is applied to those of us who want national health care and many of the social programs promoted by Franklin Roosevelt. To many "independent" voters, who helped the Dems win the Senate and the House, impeachment is seen as very radical and the Corporate Media will portray Dems as such. We don't need to turn off independent voters for the 2008 elections. If congress properly exercises its oversight functions, the truth about corruption, lying, deceit, manipulation, voter fraud, etc. will come out and Bush and his Criminal Gang will be exposed. As for Iraq, I suspect that Baker will come up with a plan that will save Bush's ass and will be at least a start to begin withdrawal. That isn't good enough for me, but you'll never get the Dems to agree on anything specific. That's just not realistic. I''ll be watching the Conyers led judiciary committee hearing with glee and participating in more visits to my Congressman to get him to agree to withdrawal from Iraq now.

Impeachment

Dear Congressman Conyers,

It is imperative that the Democrats listen to the American people. The American people have spoken with their votes that they want the corruption, Scandals, lies, wars, needless killing stopped and the criminals brought to justice. It is not up to the Democratic party to decide. It is up to the American people and the American people have decided. Setting a precedent for other criminals in the highest seats of the land is what no impeachment will do. They will know that there is no price to pay for their mishandling of our troops, of people's lives, the lies they tell, the war profiteering they do and allowing entire american cities drown and old ladies standing neck high in toxic waters waiting for help for three freakin days. Come on, Mr. Conyers, this can not go unpunished. It's wrong.

Torture policies, lies, unwarranted wars, illegal governmnet contracts, corporate scandals, media monopolies, voter fraud, habeous corpos elimination; I really wonder what it takes for the Dems to do the right thing now that the American People have trusted them with these horrendous and unspeakable crimes against the American people and people of the world. Where is their hearts and consciousness?

Sincerely,
lizbitchwitch

Impeachment

Mr. Conyers:

Do not be deceived; you Democrats DID NOT score any "victory" in this past election. the American People did when they overcame the machinations of the incumbents, rejected them and their policies, and threw them out of office.

They have nominated you and your party to represent them.

It is your legal and moral responsibility to do so.

It IS NOT your decision, Ms. Pelosi's decision, or your Party's decision. It is a decision made and voiced by the American People, and it is your DUTY to heed it and carry it out.

Don't let hubris and arrogance go to your heads as it did to the Bush Administration and the Republican Party.

Remember, what we did to the Republicans, we can do to you, if you do not pay attention to the US Consctitution, remember why you are in that office, and WHO PUT YOU THERE!

Constitutional Crimes have been perpetrated by incumbent office holders. It is your sworn duty to hold them to account!

Investigation, impeachment and trial; your most important, and priority function.

It is also in your policital interests to do so!

Now, how about you and Nancy get off your back pockets and rethink this entire Impeachment thing?

Further Evidence for Impeachment and More

Dear Mr. Conyers:

I must agree fully with the comments stated by sirius99, and add to them:

Congratulations are in order for the Democratic victory in the recent election. The majority spoke, and they went against the party in power. However, there is now evidence that this election might have been recorded even further in favor of the Democrats had it actually been recorded fairly:

http://www.shoutwire.com/viewstory/39353/Clear_Evidence_2006_Congressional_Elections_Hacked

In summary, the article above states that electronic election results deviate from exit polls in favor of the Republicans by enough of a margin to prove hacking, but not enough to win. Various scandals shifted public opinion in the final weeks before the election. Hacking software issued weeks prior to the election would have attempted to overcome legitimate Democratic leads by a narrow margin, not a wide one, and could not have been changed in time to offset the late swing of voter opinion.

Clear evidence exists for coercion of the voting processes in 2000, 2004 & 2006 (I do not know personally of specific evidence concerning the 2002 elections and therefore will not presume it). There are multiple other issues in which malfeasance by the administration, if proven, would be impeachable offenses. To declare impeachment "off the table" prior to investigation of such issues is tantamount to becoming accessory to the crime.

I have little doubt that you, Pelosi and any other Democrats who are nixing the idea of impeachment believe that such statements are necessary to achieve bipartisan harmony to accomplish political goals and not get snarled in confrontations along party lines. But the time has come to call a spade a spade.

There are many honest Republican politicians, just as there are both honest and dishonest Democrats in office: no one reasonable is denying that. But we have enough evidence of specific wrongdoings on a coordinated, widescale basis to know that we have many unrepentant criminals still in office who have not the slightest compunctions against subverting the will of the people for their own ends: political, financial and immoral.

They did not hesitate to deceive by omission or implication, to lie outright, to cheat by electronic hacking, illegal restriction of voting privileges, by restricting voter access in mostly democratic districts or any other method at their disposal. Each hacked or improperly disenfranchised vote is a crime: no one in Washington or anywhere else has the right to deny investigation and potential prosecution for the millions of crimes which have been committed by this administration and its supporters.

Let us also never forget that this was not the work of a single individual: George Bush Jr. is no mastermind genius super villain. He has made an excellent figurehead for a well-coordinated NeoConservative hijacking of the Republican agenda and the political power of the Right: but he is little more than a figurehead. We dare not make him a sole scapegoat and ignore the offenses of the countless operators behind the scenes. George Bush Jr. did not plan, coordinate or execute the entire agenda and array of illegal activities which has been carried out by this administration. There is no question of his full complicity, but let us not target the rattle on the snake,s tail and ignore its lethal fangs.

In short, investigation towards impeachment is only the beginning. Related crimes by other members of the administration must be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law: we Americans deserve it, as do the citizens of the rest of the world. If we fail to do so, the rest of the world may well feel justified in war crimes investigations to rival Nuremburg. Please don,t leave us in such a position.

Gwalihir

Be strong...

Please don,t be afraid of Nancy Pelosi, Mr. Conyers.

She just made her first mistake in the house by supporting Murtha for the No. 2 spot.

Hoyer beat her and won the majority leader position by standing strong… so can you.

Be strong and do the right thing regarding investigating the current administration and putting impeachment back on the table.

Predicted Democrats Would Betray the Country Also!

Our website already predicted that the Democrats, if they win this election, would also betray the country. We were however surprised at just how quickly they would give evidence of this by making outrageous and passionate statements even before they actually sit in office. Before even going into office where they were elected to correct the problems as they inherit a massive and treasonous mess, everytime we see them on TV, they keep misstating and misconstruing the expression, "solve the problems" or "justice" with "REVENGE."

Hey, the Green River Killer destroyed the lives of almost 50 women. Is there a comparison between him and President Bush? How do we solve this problem at least as best can be? Take revenge on the Green River Killer? How would that solve the problem caused by his actions? Why have a giant system, according to the reasoning of the Democrats, of civil justice in America that does nothing but take revenge? Justice itself is being turned into deceit the Republicans were skilled at by the Democrats, and merely called REVENGE.

The Democrats know very well that a major reason why they were elected is to get rid of the problems. The majority of Americans have shown that President Bush is the major problem. It is a major oxymoron to claim they are here to solve the problems by working with those problems.

Our website predicted that the Democrats will also betray the country. In other words, they, for the most part, really didn't care if they were elected or not. They have the same agenda as the Republicans, to re-institute the Inquisitions upon America.

One means is by the gridlock ploy where the Democrats show serious differences amongst themselves in the face of the blind Republican unity for the destruction of freedom.

That must be the reason why jesuits, posting on the newsgroups, were bold enough to tell us that Bush is secretly Catholic, and that ROME CONTROLS THIS COUNTRY. They told us that, in the face of major crisis (as the result of Rome controlling the United States--curse instead of blessing) there will be a major rush to convert to Catholicism!
http://www.seventh-dayadventism.com/AC/AppealChapWhatControlsUS.htm

Were incredible statements like these made because these very confident people only knew that one political party exists in America? Yet these jesuits said more. They said...

That all non-Catholics must be persecuted and killed! This was posted boldly during our climate of terror!
http://www.seventh-dayadventism.com/AC/AppealChapI.htm

And, on the Table of Contents, there are examples after examples of infiltration, where members of various religious groups prove they don't belong there:
http://www.seventh-dayadventism.com/TOC.htm

We have been predicting that the Democrats would indeed betray the American people. It is happening exactly as we predicted! Will they listen to the Americans who tell them they were voted in to take action on the problems and not work with them?? Look at the constant insistence to misconstrue the words justice with REVENGE! Do the Democrats know they were elected to even take action on President Bush? Just the many times they keep reiterating that they will not correct the biggest problem, shows they know they were voted in to impeach president Bush!

Mr. Conyers, it is not just that you have an opinion upon this matter. YOU ARE WRONG! You and the others are betraying the trust put upon you by the American people also!

Betrayal

tmac100,
I, too, saw on numerous websites that the Democratic Party would betray the Nation once they were elected. It was predicted by more then one Organization. Did I take heed? Yes, but that doesn't mean I don't feel a moral outrage that they did exactly as predicted!

I, myself, am either an Independent or Progressive-whichever party tends to feel as I do, but most certainly I am not a Dem or Repub. Yet, hope springs eternal, and 'there is no fool like an old fool' and all that...therefore, I voted Democratic, as did my entire family.

No, I am not as surprised as much as I am simply disappointed.

Jewels

AND, I keep signing back on in the hopes that Mr. Conyers will have the cajones to ANSWER some of these posts!
Yet, he gave himself an out on that one, too, didn't he?

Hmmmmm...

Impeachment is off of the table

This troubles me since no investigations have happened. I have no desire one way or the other until the evidence points one way or the other. Mr. Bush and Congress passed legislation which confers blanket immunity for war crimes. To many, that is a pretty clear indication that the Administration was worried. The voters were quite clear that they are looking for accountability. So if Mr. Bush has committed impeachable offenses, he should be impeached. If not - then he has nothing to worry about. But to declare before he is even investigated that he is off the hook sounds like the same old corruption we have come to expect. I am a progressive; time and time again I have watched the democrats cave in to the right. Is this why we worked so hard to take back the Senate and the House? For business as usual?

What,s Going on ?

I debated with myself as to wether I should post this or not.
I came to the conclusion ,that why should I hold this in?

Can someone tell me what the hell we busted our asses for this past election?
Even our most respected leaders have turned their backs on us , and seem to be telling us that we are no better than a bunch of malcontents and were mistaken for having the Gaul to think that what we valued was being taken from us. Seems they are saying ,Your not smart enough to even realize what is really going on!

I thought we were trying to right terrible wrongs , wrongs that were done to humanity by the Rethuglikan rulers.
Seems like I was living in a dream world.
Funnier than hell, I actually BELIEVED that this bullshit would change.

Now I find out, that ALL that I believed in, was a chimera.
What a nightmare to find out that even the staunchest Dem. has been swayed to join the band of TRAITORS!
These bastards are all the same!
New saying? Don't like it ? Tell someone who cares

I Concur

What did our vote matter but to hand over control of the Reich Wing agenda to the Leftist Wing?

Isn't it all two wings of the same diseased and dying bird, anyway?

So, when they urged me for my vote, for change, for accountability, where the hell is it? Snubbed by the Rebublicrats? Professional politicians?

This country is on the verge OF a revolution. Freedom from a failing Government, so that we may be safe and secure at home.

Q U E S T I O N:
What have we become when those trusted to uphold their Oath of Office shriek away from their Constitutional duty? When the Supreme Leader, this (self proclaimed) Unitary Executive Decider, takes it upon himself to undo our Liberties and Freedoms so as to rout out the evil-doers?

We no longer are a land OF the Free, where "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL," but instead are beholden to our Leaders to grant us individual freedoms and liberties at their discretion.

My God, What have we become?

Thank you

Ron,
Thank you for putting into words what I couldn't. BASTARDS!!!!!

I want accountability!! I WANT IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS TO BEGIN YESTERDAY!! I want my Rights and my Freedoms back, without fear of reprisal for posting this! I want MY COUNTRY BACK!!

Strict adherance to the Constitution

Dear Representative Conyers,

You are one of the Congressmen who have given me hope and solace during this very difficult six years of the Bush administration. I consider you one of the enduring champions of what this country stands for.

However, I have to take the strongest umbrage at your 'stand' that impeachment is off the table. With all due respect, it is not a 'decision' to be made. The Articles of Impeachment were written in to the Constitution for application when the occasion arises. The occasion can only be known after proper oversight and then further investigation in to the activities and loyalties of the Bush administration if warranted by those oversight committees and activities. If high crimes and misdemeanors have occurred, there is no choice but to pursue impeachment.

I believe it is not only possible to simultaneously pursue both a Progressive legislative agenda and the proper oversight and impeachment if necessary, but required by our Constitution.

Based on the response to Ms. Pelosi and your 'stand' concerning impeachment, I humbly assert you are on the wrong side of this issue and must move forward aggressively to provide the necessary oversight to the Bush executive branch and his numerous crony appointees.

Regards,

Eric,

impeachment off the table

Mike, Colville,Washington I couldn't have said it better, so I won't. I am urging the Congressman to do his constitutional duty and hold hearings on the innumeriable offenses of the Bush administration and to impeach if the evidence is there.

Impeachment off the table

I have been concern since the format has change on this and MoveOn and a few other websites at the same time.

I am concerned that since the government has the ability to just disappear people that John Conyers and others are in danger. I have no way of knowing if he is ever replaced, or under such distress that he is no longer under his own control ie fear for his family etc

Also in order to get a seat at the table ie the Head of Judiciary you some times have to make nice until you are in a place where you are truely free to act effectively.

Either of these reasons maybe the tone for the general change in attitude. To the old John Conyers God Bless You and Keep You Safe.

Wow! A lot of newcomers to this forum

There are a lot of new people to this forum, nad I would like to take this time to welcome them all here, adn enjoy your stay!

And yes, I agree with the balance of the opinions here that we need to impeach. All of the efforts done by democratic supporters aNd even those who work on this blog would have gone to waste!

IMPEACH AND INDICT NOW, THE ENTIRE BUSH CABAL!!!

impeachment is off the table

This troubles me too. The President has committed impeachable acts. We don't even need to investigate as the President announced publicly how he wasn't going to observe the FISA law. And he continues to do it every 45 days when he signs that piece of paper in order to continue to ignore the FISA law. This has nothing to do with pay back or revenge. This has to do with a President who has broken the law and publicly admits to it. I repeat DO NOT table impeachment. If this is not pursued what kind of precedent is being set for future presidents?

Impeachment is OFF the table!..WHAT???!! JCJ not to be trusted?

Here we go again...the old BAIT and SWITCH! JCJ... the American people have spoken and now that they have you JCJ have a better plan than that of the collective. AND, so what gives YOU and Nancy P. the right to sweep aside the very agenda (Impeachment) you BOTH offered...to now 'run to hide from your promises?!

Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, Murdoch, Kristol, Gingrich, Jeb Bush, Kissinger, Rove, Bolton, Gonzales, Rice and the most wretched of the group, "W", delivered the CONSTITUTION to the gates of HELL... you sir, said you were going to grab the sacred document from their clutches and return America to her greatness. NOW WE KNOW, YOU SIR, ARE AN EQUAL DECEIVER!

Enough of this pansy-ass approach...IT'S MERELY MORE BUSHit!

IT IS TIME TO REMOVE ALL LYING INCUMBENTS FROM THEIR HOLIER THAN THOU ('thou" being the American people)...POSTS!!! Including you sir.

TRUST misplaced only to betrayed WAS once the laughing ground for the RepubliCONs. It is NOW evident the entire congress, including YOU JCJ, are NOT to be trusted, you laugh in our faces!!

We worked our asses off out here for change. You SPIT on our work!

Yes I'm angry and NO, I'm not alone.

Impeachment - constitutional duty to investigate and impeach

Dear Congressman Conyers and concerned citizens;

I respectfully call your attention to your own e-mail only a few months ago, Representative Conyers. I can only hope that stating 'impeachment is off the table' is merely political posturing and nothing more. If it is truly your viewpoint, this country is in very, very deep trouble....

I need your help to build the case for an impeachment investigation.

I have conducted an exhaustive study on this subject and believe that we must begin the process to investigate this administration for possible impeachable offenses. As former congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman noted at the forum, a groundswell of public support is necessary for impeachment proceedings to succeed. There was overwhelming public support for pursuing a case against Richard Nixon, while these same conditions did not exist when the Republicans tried to impeach President Clinton. Public opinion is on our side and now is the time to make a difference.

disgusted and disappointed by this email today

Impeachment off the table, agreeing with Nancy Pelosi can you tell us what happened? What does the Democratic Leadership not understand about the American people?
It is not payback to want Impeachment, it is justice. This war was built on lies and it is an illegal war. Not to mention all the other corruption of the last 6 years.
You can not compare the impeaching of Bill Clinton's lies about a bj too Bush's illegal war.

Impeachment

I agree with the sentiments here. How can impeachment be off the table when CIA admits it has two memos from the criminals in the White House directing how and where torture is to be applied to people we are holding in violation of international law, customary international law, not some nuanced version of it?

Haven't you folks learned yet that Rove and Company view compromise and diplomacy as weaknesses to be pounced on? Maybe if some impeachemt charges were filed the people who are bent on turning this country into the New Reich will realize that the game is over and that they've lost.

Liz Holtzman is right, it was the public that wanted Nixon's ass because even back then the people in congress were too urbane or demur to fight for the American people.

John, you were there then, weren't you? Go after these people. Rush and his ilk are going to be lambasting you anyway. Blitzer, Gregory, Stephanopoulous and the rest are going to be painting you folks with a negative brush.

Fuck 'em all. Attack and wipe that smirk off chimpie's face and off Cheney's bitter mug, too. Maybe it will give Dick Fred Sanford's BIG ONE (We should be so lucky!!).

At the very least these people need to be investigated and the world has to see we hold our war criminals accountable, especially after what we allowed to happen to Milosevic.

I am perfectly capable of erudite and eloquent "political" discourse. But I, like Matt, and many others, am just plain flippin MAD!!!!!!!
How best to express this in a verbal forum...epithets. Cuss words. Swearing!
Next, it may be guns! As in Revolution?

Righteous anger is a map, not a justification for cretinous behavior. Capital letters, exclamation points, ad hominem attacks, and expletives are no substitutes for reason and logic. They serve only to demonstrate the bankruptcy of the user's ability to effectively articulate his/her inner energy and contribute anything meaningful to a debate. They retard any possibility of progressive accomplishment. This counterproductive manner of communication belongs over there in Limbaugh/Savage/Coulter-land, wouldn't you agree?

You can say that Tom, but if you do, you can damn well hear it too. You don't like it? Big surprise! What do you suppose there is about it that offends YOU, but which no-one else is going to notice?

Tom, FF is absolutely right. Your first post on this blog (ever, as far as I know- I've been here close to 3 years) was "shut up", but you bitch about others telling you the same in response? That's a touch hypocritical, don't you think?

Don't show up here trying to throw your weight around, friend. We don't go for that on this blog- you reap what you sow.

All that is neccesary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

He has every bit of right to

Tom:

He has every bit of right to be here than you do, and if ypou don't like that, then go over to the Free Republic, where they still practice the old habit of banning you and violating your free speech rights!

Read twice, write once

I gotta be more careful

Pointless Disorder has come

Pointless Disorder has come back on this blog, on page 3 of this thread.......we need to get rid of him.

Ignore him, AD

Don't waste your time on POO. He never, ever has a point (despite the handle) and just posts random stuff. He's kinda like that 5 year old that shouts "I like socks!" when the adults are talking amongst themselves because he's feeling lonely and not included.

Ignore him, and he'll go away- he gets bored easily.

'Necessity' is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves. ---Wm Pitt

Thanks.......now we need to

Thanks.......now we need to figure out how we can channel our outrage over being cheated by Conyers and the House Dempcrats over not getting what we voted for.

I smell a revolt in the air with regards to the Democratic Party grassroots, if impeachment does not happen before 2008.

Frosted Flake...

Why? Why be more careful?

Well, I made a mistake, Jewels.

I misread AD's post, thought he was talking to me. I clarified, then reread AD, saw I was the one in need of clarity, got out the eraser, but found that it only goes so far. I could not delete the entire post, to my dissapointment.

'Nuff said?
Frosted Flake

No need to apologize, FF, it

No need to apologize, FF, it happens.......so as long as nobody got hurt in the process. :)

Yup/All is well FF!

Love the Name! (psssst, I live quite near where they make those FF.s!)

No hard feelings! But, waddya think we should do about Tom? It IS getting close to Thanksgiving...a TURKEY, you think? And stuffed full of himself, at that?

As for bandying words around, he doesn't want to get me started. I use slang and vernacular to get my point across...not to impress. Maybe he has a small...well, you know...Turkey Gobbler!!

Jewels

Hey..Tom knows "vernacular" too.

Sorry guy, but coming onto a board and dissing everyone is not going to help you get your point across. It simply makes you look like a pompous ass.
J.

Banning?

I rather imagine the "angry" part holds sway over the "Democrat" part, eh?

Not only do you seem incapable of constucting a meaningful English sentence (forgive me if this is your second language), but you miss my point entirely. I seek not to "ban" the gentleman, but rather to elevate a most important debate above the gutteral vernacular more at home with the Michael Savages of the land. He has a right to say whatever he wishes anywhere he wants (a right which you seem to want to deny me in THIS arena...."love it or leave it," the perennial cant of the jingoist).

Tom Welsh

Oh yeah, we would have idiots like you banned.

For insulting people, name-calling, and other offensive posts, which the members of this forum do not appreciate.

Cry foul because you free speech rights are being violated by being banned from here.......because that is what your Repugnicans are doing to the American people, so you are getting a taste of your own medicine, created by Bush and his Repukes, via the members of this forum and the Admin of this forum.

Impeachment off the Table!!!!

Dear Representative Conyers,
You are one of the people in our party that we have always truly respected and counted on to do the right thing for the people of our country. As lifetime Democrats, we are very disappointed in the direction our party has decided to pursue at this point. As Liberals (a very proud word), We have always felt that centrists or moderates, whichever you choose to call yourselves, have a very uncomfortable position. You are basically fence sitters.
The DLC, the centrist wing of the party, which includes Mr. Carville, the Clintons and others, has never been our idea of what Democrats should be. We want a party of, by and for the people.
Please enjoy your two years as the majority. As for us, we will be working to help form a third party that really represents the wishes of the American Majority that voted clearly November 7 to change the direction of our government and remove President Bush from office.

George & Billye Greer

Third Party

Mr. and Mrs Greer,
Count me in! I am just plain disgusted at the wishy-washiness of our "Politicians" who sell out to the highest bidder.
Congressman Conyers painted himself as a warrior, who was after change in DC! NOT. Another pandering Dem who hasn't the gall to stand up to these thugs in the White House! Or is there really a "Shadow Government" which pulls the strings and intimidates once strong and couragous people?
Jewels

Third Party

Let's call it the Armed Patriots Party.

I refuse to be sucked into your hypnotheoretical arguments.

Re: Now For the Hard Part

>We need to put aside any thought of anger or payback. Instead we need to focus on identifying and correcting abuses and pass legislation which serves the interests of the American people.

Big mistake to play nice and ignore the righteous anger of all concerned and thinking Americans. Any attempt at oversight, hearings, and policy corrections is going to be labeled 'political payback' and we'll just have to deal with the politics of that. What we cannot afford to do is to give these CRIMINALS any kind of pass in the name of national unity. Hundreds of thousands of dead people and a half empty treasury demand justice, so get to it JC! I want to see hearings on 1) election vote counting fraud and shenanigans, 2) 'Fixing the Facts' for war, war profiteering, and permanent bases 3) 911 discrepancies -- lets' get the whole story out before it fades down the memory hole, 4) Cheney's energy meetings, corporate ripoffs, and non-policies in the face of looming oil/gas depletion and climate tipping points, 5) Torture, and 6) Spying on US citizens. My, those boys have been busy!

Good luck!

Howard Dean

Mr. Conyers, in my judgment, Howard Dean's 50-state approach was masterful. It is high time the Democratic Party began long-term development in even the reddest states. The narrow approach to investing only in close races would have us limping along from one campaign to the next. The 50-state approach carries another important benefit: When you and your democratic colleagues put forward a progressive agenda in support of better wages, better health care, better education, better freedom and better international relations, you need every red-state republican hearing from the member's own republican constituents about just how important it is, to them, to support *their* agenda for a better life in these areas, which just "happens" to coincide with a progressive agenda. By including hopelessly backward and repressive states, a 50-state campaign promises to deliver the rising tide that will lift all progressive causes. Stand firm, and thanks for standing by democratic principles and by Howard Dean.

Investigations and impeachment

Dave Klassen, Ph.D.
I have the greatest respect for your energy, determination, perseverence, and the invaluable reports you have produced during these years of Republican corruption. You of all people in the world are in a position to recognize the depths of the damage that has been done to our nation by the abuses that you have helped to document.

We are proud to say that we are a nation of laws, and now more than ever we must return to and abide by that standard. I feel anger when elected officials violate the trust placed in them by voters and violate laws and violate our Constitution, but the path we must follow now is not a matter of anger. It is a matter of law. If we are aware of law breaking by Republicans or Democrats in Congress or in the White House, we need that information to go to prosecutors. We need investigations and appropriate legal action. The appropriate legal action may be indictments and crimminal trials, or it may be impeachment. I do not believe it is appropriate now, before such investigations have been completed, for you or Nancy Pelosi or anyone to prejudge the findings and declare that impeachment is "off the table." If full, fair investigations report findings of impeachable offenses, then impeachment should take place. That's the American way.

I believe that the mandate you received from the voters was two-fold. I believe the voters said, "We don't like this war. Find a way to end it." They also said, "We are tired of corruption in government. Put a stop to it." It was the combination of both of these messages that gave the Democratic Party this historic victory. Please don't let us voters down now that you have the power to act. Please fulfill both mandates!

Investigations and Impeachment

Dr. Klassen has expressed the belief of the majority! Thank you, sir.
Now it is up to the leaders of the House to proceed with the mandate we voters have prescribed. It is up to you all to lead in each of your purviews.
Rep. Conyers, you must use the subpeona power of your office to investigate every crime and error of the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld cabal. When their lawyers have all of their money, the impeachment process can begin with Vice President Cheney.
I cannot imagine, in my worst nightmare, Nancy Pelosi pardoning any of these criminals.
Good luck, sir, and God speed.
Mr. C. R. Touby
